Founded in 1958 by Ron“ald” Wallace, ALD Decal began in the basement of the family’s home with used screenprinting equipment creating varnish-based decals for delivery vehicles and semi tractor-trailers. The business quickly grew and in 1960, ALD moved operations to its first commercial property in downtown Canton, Ohio.

With the invention of pressure sensitive vinyl a few years earlier (in 1956), ALD knew that vinyl would quickly revolutionize the fleet markings industry. We invested in new printing equipment, solvent inks, and die-cutters to furnish our new location.

In the production of pressure-sensitive vinyl decals, ALD earned a strong reputation in the trucking industry for their innovative Trip/Lease door placards that were screen printed on a thin, rubberized stock which was weather-proof. Many printers were using a thin paper-stock that would easily rip and tear in the wind and rain. This innovation gave ALD national recognition and further grew it’s customer base.

In the late 1980s, ALD made the decision to convert their screenprinting operations from solvent inks which were not user-friendly or eco-friendly to the new, safer technology of UV curable inks. That decision lead to the purchase of new printing and CAD die-cutting equipment to be installed in our new location where we currently operate today.

One of our biggest opportunities came in 1992. Our long history and reputation with 3M Commercial Graphics lead to the collaboration of ALD working alongside 3M technicians developing Scotchprint GraphicsTM, the printing breakthough that lead to digital, wide format printing as we know it today! 3M technicians used our facility and expertise here in Canton, Ohio to test and develop the technology. We have been printing digital wide format graphics from the start, longer than any other company in the United States!

It is this strong relationship with 3M that clients and competitors alike respect ALD Decal as a leader in the vinyl graphics industry both for our experience and help to pioneer wide-format printing as we know it today. This respect developed many wholesale relationships with sign and graphics companies nationwide relying on ALD to provide their quality vinyl graphics needs.
